Scones

Scones are another one of those fancy-schmancy food names that may sound intimidating.  But they aren't.  Simple ingredients, a proper scone baking pan and a willingness to try something new are all that is needed. Your guests' appreciative responses won't disappoint you.

(in all recipes C = cup, T = tablespoon, t = teaspoon)

Preheat oven to 400°F.

1 3/4 C all-purpose flour
4 t baking powder
1/4 C white sugar
1/8 t salt
5 T unsalted butter
1/3 C dried currents, raisins, nuts, coconut or chocolate chips
1/2 C milk
1/4 C sour cream
(and 1 egg plus 1 Tablespoon milk for the wash)

Throw it all into a bowl, then mix to make the sticky scone dough.  You'll want to grease your hands with some shotening or butter as pushing the dough into the sectioned pan is a bit of a challenge.

Bake for 13 - 18 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan for 7-10 minutes before serving.
