Overnight Apple Oatmeal

Bev is always on the lookout for a new recipe.  This one came from our friends Terry and Jan Wattles, who run The Crossings a wonderful Bed and Breakfast in Billings MT   Bev bakes it in a crock pot or in the oven, depending on the number of servings she wants.

(in all recipes C = cup, T = tablespoon, t = teaspoon)

2 T butter

2 medium apples, peeled and diced

¾ C brown sugar

2 t cinnamon

2 C old fashioned oats

4 C water or 3 C water and 1 C half and half

Break up the butter into small pieces and drop it all around the bottom of a slow cooker. While doing this, wipe down the insides of the cooker with a pat of butter to keep from forming a "crust" along the edges.

Cover butter pats with diced apples.

Sprinkle cinnamon across the apples

Pour sugar over the apples and cinnamon

Cover with two cups of oats

Gently pour in 4 cups of water, or 3 cups water and 1 cup half-and-half


To bake:

1. Place on low setting in your slow cooker/crock pot and cook overnight, 8-10 hours.


2. Place covered in your oven at a low setting – 170F.
